Mark Halperin Quote in WSJ

From John Fund writing in the WSJ's Political Diary newsletter yesterday:

'Mark Halperin, an editor at large for Time magazine and co-author of the campaign field guide "The Way to Win," was one of several speakers at (Monday's) conference on the 2008 election sponsored by Time and CNN in New York.  During his panel discussion, Mr. Halperin was asked if the media had been too soft on Mr. Obama.  To the surprise of the largely liberal audience, his answer was yes.  He went on to say that through the subtle choice of which stories to cover and where to deploy investigative resources, the national media had handed Mr. Obama "hundreds of millions in free publicity."  He attributed the positive coverage in part to the historic nature of Mr. Obama's candidacy.  But he also noted that only a few hands had gone up in the crowded room when the audience had been asked how many had voted for George W. Bush.

He quickly tempered his remarks by noting that John McCain had similarly been the beneficiary of positive media coverage in his 2000 campaign.  "It is interesting that the media's favorite candidates in both parties both won their party's nominations this year," he observed.  He called on reporters to look at their 2008 coverage of candidates after the election, in hopes that in the future "they do a better job treating people equally."  (end of article)'

These are the facts.  The media is "selecting" our President and we're sitting back and letting it happen. You will note how he casually refers to the "media's favorite candidates" when the issue should be the "people's favorite candidates."  The media wanted a "weak" Republican candidate to go up against Obama and they got what they worked for.  He then tries to justify the actions of the media by saying that John McCain got "free" publicity in the past!  That's because they wanted a "weak" candidate to go up against Kerry!  Then, he has the "AUDACITY" to say that they should examine themselves "in HOPES" that they will change!
Note the words, "audacity and hope" are used to strike a chord with the millions of you that follow the media selections.

When you let the media "select" our President, you are giving up your "right" to vote.  It's an ELECTION not a SELECTION.

Five Reasons Not to Vote for Obama, why not Thirty Reasons

I've finished reading the above article.  There are a whole lot more than five reasons to not vote for Obama.  No one likes to vote for someone who is not giving them any reason to vote for them other than the ones against voting for the other candidate.  That's John McCain's position in this election and most all of us knew it would come down to voting against the Democrat as opposed to voting for the Republican.  But, I'm reconciled to the fact that America's interest come first, so I'll vote for McCain and hope that he sees the light on spending, amnesty, first amendment rights, less government intrusion in our lives, etc.

Hmmm, let's see, reasons to vote for McCain or reasons to vote against Obama:

1.  McCain's not part of ACORN and has never taken or given money to ACORN (the organization that should be known as the "Atheist/Communist Organization that's Raping our Nation" at taxpayer expense).  Obama's supported ACORN for years.

2.  McCain's never been a member of a Socialist Party (which is also pretty much 'communist' don't you know.)

3.  McCain is not part of the Chicago political machine with corrupt bosses calling the shots.

4.  McCain's never tried to indoctrinate our children to socialist views while using money from a private charity which was intended to raise graduation rates and test schools for inner-city blacks. Which was a total failure.  Yea, let Obama run our Education Department.  If the teachers think No Child Left Behind is bad, I'm afraid it will be "All Children Left Behind"

5.  McCain's never associated with persons of dubious character who have 1) stomped the American flag while ranting and raving about the capitalist pigs; 2) bombed our public buildings and declared his guilt and "wished we had done more" comments; 3) advanced a socialist agenda at a major city college and filled our children's heads with anti-American crap; he's never met with Hugo Chavez and worshipped at Chavez's well of communism while reaping the benefits of a good paying taxpayer funded job with great benefits at a major city college;  he's never written an anti-American article article after 9/11/01 taking joy in the death of so many Americans (well, you get the drift about Ayers and his wife, and Obama's connection to a man "who is just in the neighborhood.)  Obama sat on two boards with Ayers distributing money to Ayers' pet projects where the objective was to "socialize" youth against the American culture and traditions.

6.  McCain's never associated himself with a convicted Chicago business man who had ties with Muslim organizations who are on the "terrorist organization watch" list.  (Tony Rezko) Of course, Obama brings up the Keating Five scandal which McCain was exonerated, but fails to mention that John Glenn (who was also a target) is on his campaign.

7.  McCain's never stated that "that was a bonehead move" in connection with a house purchase using a convicted business man as a front for his down payment.

8.  McCain's never gone abroad and told foreign audiences that America is not "right" and he was going to correct it and put it on the right path (which to Obama is the path to socialism and more foreign aid to African countries - think Kenya - and the elimination of world poverty, don't you know)

9.  McCain's never said to a 7 year old girl that the reason he wanted to be President was "because America is not what it once was or what it could be".  Whatever the hell that means.  What a dumb thing to say to a child about her Country.  Let's plant the seed here and now that America is "a bad place" is what Obama was doing with the Annenberg/Wood Foundation money. Just $150 million dollars spent and not a thing to show for it (oh, maybe there is something to show for it, 90% of blacks voting for Obama.)

10.  McCain has never voted "present" 129 times while serving his Countrymen.  Obama took the politically easy road while serving.

11.  McCain's never voted to murder babies born alive from botched abortions and calling them "inviable fetuses" because if you called them "children" they would have 14th amendment "right to life."  Uggh, this is sick.

12.  McCain's not taken campaign contributions from Freddie and Fannie Mae and didn't stand aside while Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson and Jamie Gorelick raped these companies while paying themselves millions of dollars in bonuses.  McCain tried to reign in these companies while  Obama stood silent.

13. McCain did go on the floor of the Senate and raised concerns about Freddie and Fannie Mae when the outlook was bleak and the train wreck was approaching faster and faster. (Obama kept taking the money and looking the other way.)

14.  Obama did not oppose the employment of Jamie Gorelick at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who is the most notorious designer of the "wall" between the FBI and the CIA created during the Clinton years so information couldn't be shared between/among agencies to encourage the apprehension/watching of suspected terrorists.  I pray to God that this woman will be unemployed for a long, long time and never put in a position of trust again for the people's sake.

15.  McCain has not employed Franklin Raines or Jim Johnson to advise him on economic conditions (Obama has)

16. McCain has never stated that something was "above his pay grade."

17. McCain has never slammed or made fun of anyone because of his physical infirmities (oh, you don't use a computer, you're out of touch, oops, we didn't realize that you had no physical dexterity because every bone in your body was broken by our enemy while in captivity for 5 years)  Yea, just like Obama didn't realize that Ayers is a terrorist, Rezko is a crook, Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson were taking millions from a government GSE, and a baby born alive is a human being.)

18.  McCain's not designed a silly looking logo that mimics the Presidential seal  - being replaced with Obama's name.

19.  McCain did not spend 10 years in Indonesia being raised by a Muslim father.  He spent five years in a Hanoi prison being tortured.

20. McCain did not spend 20 years in a church with a pastor that preached hatred of America and other races. He spent 5 years in a Hanoi prison being tortured.

21.  McCain has no personal connection with Louis Farakahn and has never attended a "million man march" where a man who preaches hatred of Jewish people spoke for hours.

22.  McCain has never declared that his program on health care reform would have to be implemented "incrementally" instead of all at once because of budgetary constraints.

23.  McCain has never declared that he is on a personal crusade against health insurance companies because his mother had difficulty getting claims paid from her insurance company because of "pre-existing conditions."  How tragic this is, it shouldn't be a crusade to make us all pay higher premiums because of  inadequate personal responsibility.  Note, Obama never said she was refused treatment for her cancer, just problems getting her claims paid.  (I also had a similar situation with my mother, but it shouldn't be a personal crusade for all of us to bear because of an emotional attachment - personal responsibility is the answer - not government mandated coverages.)

24.  Obama has never declared a stop on pork-barrel spending.  How could Obama when he's tied to the corrupt political machine in Chicago?

25.  Obama never introduced any piece of legislation while in the Illinois state senate or as an Illinois senator. The Lugar amendment doesn't cout, Obama.  The key word is significant.

26.  Obama lied when he said he would take government funding for his campaign.

27.  Obama lied when he said he would support John McCain on one issue (I forget right now) and then turned his back on his word.

28.  Obama lied when he said the "surge was not working" and we should leave Iraq as a defeated Country.

29.  Obama lied when he said he "would have voted against the war" if a senator at the time.  He would have voted "present."

30.  Obama lies when he expresses concern about the military men and women.  He could care less about them; look at his position on the war in Iraq and his constant harboring on "losing."  Losing is not a morale booster just like telling a 7 year old child that America is not great.  Looking through his looking glass he sees a Country that's a "loser" and needs to be dismantled and shaped into a socialist Country where utopia for all exists.

31.  Obama  not wearing a flag lapel pin when it's convenient to get votes; wearing one when it's convenient to get votes.  McCain doesn't do this.  When asked, Obama tries to "nuance" with "well, the flag doesn't represent the situation at the moment" or some such crap.

32.  Obama in interviews about Ayers never discusses his relationship except in the most benign language (he was a guy in my neighborhood) and the interviewer always acts as though the issue is the "attack about his relationship" as opposed to the substance of the relationship.  Recently Charlie Gibson did it again.  "What about the attacks concerning your relationship with Ayers" not, tell us "what transpired with your relationship and what exactly did you do and what do you think about Ayers' socialist ideals."

33.  Let's not forget about the Washington D.C. gun ban; he was for it before he was against it - kind of.  He said afterwards that he believes that cities have the "right" to take away guns if it's needed.

34.  He stated (Obama) that he would appoint Supreme Court justices in the mold of Breyer, Souter, Ginsburg,  and Stevens.  The most liberal justices and the ones who gave us the Kelo decision taking away our property rights.

That's all I can do for now.  Maybe more later.

HEALTH CARE FOR ALL

See my comments under article about Obama's plan and John McCain's plan.  The problem is we should be talking about "no plan" but personal responsibility and also how the government's involvement in Medicare/Medicaid is driving up costs for all of us.  When the government lowers its payments to doctors and hospitals, we pick up the tab.
